Kinja'd!!!

Got a little work done on the car in the last month. A/C system has been installed, all brake and fuel lines are finished, most of the wiring is run, but it is taking a while to make it look good and clean. I was hoping to have the engine fired up, but it will be worth the wait once everything is installed nice and clean. The wheels and tires finally came in. I was going with the original steelies with the large Mopar hubcaps, but I couldn't get any to fit with the brakes I got. I know these don't traditionally come on this car, but I think they make the car. I'm not sure about the ride height yet, I may drop it another inch, but for now this is how she sits.

I personally wouldn't go any lower. Looks prefect height as is.

Nice, that era Charger is my favorite "muscle car" body style, I think. What engine do you have in it?

I have a 6.1 Hemi from an 08 Challenger. Got a cam in it and some HD valve springs. It will need a tune once I get it running.

So far, that seems to be the consensus. Once I get it rolling and have everything installed I'll take another look at it.

Nice! Is the engine currently in the car? I think ride height is just a hair too high, but not much. If there's no engine right now, that'll lower it a bit more once installed.

The shop is belongs to my restoration guy. He has been doing most of the work on the car. I don't get to go out and work on it as much as I would like and he works on it when he has time. I wanted to do everything but the body by myself, but I also want it completed this decade so this is a nice balance. It's slow but steady progress and I have a hand in most everything, but he has a lot of expertise that I don't have. Plus he has talked me out of a lot of dumb ideas.

I'm hoping that once I drive it around a little, she will drop a little more. All the suspension is brand new and stiff so its needs to be settled.

Yeah, I'm almost certain you'll lose another 1/4 to 1/2" in ride height when everything settles. That is the way an engine bay should look!

God damn that car looks great.

If you drop any further, can I recommend only dropping the front?

I love me some muscle car lean.

I plan on doing that on the Montego eventually, I want to offset the wheels tires a bit too with bigger ones in the rear and then maybe drop an inch of the front for some serious lean.

Did the engine fit there well? One of my countrymen has been trying to fit 6.1 from SRT Jeep into a '70 charger but he has problems getting the left side (stock) exhaust manifold fit with the stock steering box. You seem to have some headers but what about the starter and the steering box?

Even the headers had problems clearing the steering box. I am running a stock steering box as well and I had to have one tube for the headers modified to fit. He may have to switch to headers to get this done. Another option that is available is switching to rack and pinion steering, which would give more room in the engine compartment. There are a few aftermarket options available for this.

The only other fitment issue I ran into was in the transmission tunnel. I had to enlarge some areas to make the new trans clear. I'm using a Tremec Tk600.

Glad to hear there are more projects like this one going on in the world. What country are you in?

I just remembered another issue. The starter did not give me any trouble, but I did have to get a 90 degree oil filter adapter to clear the k-member. It still didn't fit perfectly and I had to trim it down so that I would be able to change the filter.

Finland is our country. We have quite a lot of old American cars here. I have to admit that I have bought a '69 Charger too but its still in US waiting for the transport.

I have heard that a Borgeson steering box is a lot smaller than the stock one but it is rather expensive solution too (~$600). The Unisteer racks are another option but the Charger enthusiasts aren't having very positive opinions about them. I'm not sure what's the problem with them though.

He is using T-56 transmission (from a newish Camaro) so he will also have to modify his tunnel quite a lot.
